#Starhub shareplus plan free#
If you’ve come across some other Singaporean JET blogs and would like to share, please feel free to comment on this post and I’ll add them to the list! Since there are so few Singaporean JET blogs out there, I thought it would be useful to create a post with links to the ones that I’ve managed to find so far. But it’s still an option worth considering if you don’t mind paying a little for the convenience of being able to still use your Singapore phone line while in Japan!įor more info on the Big Three’s share plans, you can check out their respective webpages here: At the time when I signed up, the fee was pretty cheap at around $5.35 per month, but it seems like that was a promotional price and now Starhub charges $9.63 for the service. However, after I downgraded my phone contract to Starhub’s SharePlus plan, I was able to leech off my father’s existing monthly plan by sharing his talktime and data. For example, in my case, my father and I were both using Starhub as our telco, and we each had our own separate monthly plans with their own talktime and data. The second less mafan but slightly more expensive option would be to downgrade your phone plan to a share plan that allows you to share someone else’s existing phone plan for a monthly fee. (You can see this forum thread for more information on suspending your phone line with Starhub) So it doesn’t seem very ideal if you intend to stay in Japan for more than a year since you’ll have to keep contacting your telco to extend your suspension. Also, apparently the longest suspension period they can grant you at one go is 6 months, which means that you will have to contact them every 6 months to request for an extension of your suspension. I haven’t done this myself, but my understanding is that the Big Three charge around $5.35 per month for this service.

This means that you won’t have to pay your monthly contract fees, but it also means that your phone line can’t be used at all, meaning you can’t receive or make any calls or texts or use data on it. The first is to contact your telephone provider to suspend your number while you’re away. Though mostly Starhub since that’s my telco.) (Disclaimer: I haven’t been keeping up with the info regarding the plans offered by the new entrants into Singapore’s telco industry like Circles.Life and MyRepublic, so this post will only deal with the Big Three – Starhub, Singtel and M1. If you’re willing to spend a little for the convenience of keeping your phone number, there are basically two options available.
#Starhub shareplus plan update#
I know some people just cancel their phone lines and sign up for a new one when they eventually return to Singapore, but what if you’re very attached to your number that you’ve had for years (like I was) and don’t want to deal with the hassle of having to contact all your family and friends to tell them to update phone numbers? One of the things I had to figure out while making my departure preparations was what to do so that I could keep my existing phone number while on JET. (I speak as a former headless chicken who also had a severe case of procrastination which didn’t help matters at all. So it’s a little less than two weeks away before this year’s batch of SG JETs fly off to Japan, and I’m sure many of you are running around like headless chickens running errands and meeting up with friends and trying to finish packing before the big day.
